Salt in ponds: purpose before dose
Sodium chloride has specific uses in fish care. It is not a universal cure or a compulsory permanent addition.
The concentration matters
Species tolerance, exposure time and the purpose of use all affect the decision. Existing salt and other treatments must be included in the plan.
Measure before changing
Use appropriate measurement and an accurately known water volume. Salinity, chloride and chlorine are different things. Salt remains when water evaporates, so replacing evaporation does not reset its concentration.
Ask a precise question
Give the adviser the diagnosis, fish present, current salt reading and recent treatments. Do not copy another pond’s kilograms or perform concentrated dips without appropriate instruction.
