Formalin: understand the product and risks
Formalin is used against some external fish parasites. It does not treat every infection and is not a substitute for diagnosis.
Fish and system considerations
Formalin can reduce dissolved oxygen. Its use needs adequate aeration, confirmed volume, exact product directions and attention to species and temperature restrictions.
Protect the person using it
Read the safety data sheet and label before handling. Use the specified protective equipment and ventilation; avoid inhaling vapour or contacting skin and eyes. Follow emergency instructions after an exposure.
Do not mix by instinct
Keep a record of all treatments and ask a professional about compatibility and timing. Concentration differences make generic millilitre recipes unreliable.
