Koi & pond fish
Can these fish live together?
Sharing the same water temperature is only one part of compatibility.
Compare the daily needs
Look at adult size, swimming speed, diet, feeding position, oxygen needs and temperament. Ask whether slower fish can reach food and whether all species can turn and move comfortably.
Fancy goldfish need care
Delicate fancies can struggle alongside much faster pond fish. Do not treat all goldfish varieties as interchangeable. An appropriate dedicated setup may be the better choice.
Sturgeon change the routine
They need food reaching the bottom and specific care. Plants, tangled weed, obstacles and treatments used for other fish may create additional issues. Review the whole pond before adding one.
Avoid using fish as a fix
Buying an extra species to clean the bottom or solve algae can create a new stocking problem. Maintenance and the underlying cause still need attention.
Name every species
Make a complete resident list before asking what can be added. Include less visible bottom feeders and the fish’s approximate sizes. Use the species-specific guides below when comparing feeding and housing needs.
