Quarantine is a separate system, not a spare bucket
A useful quarantine setup needs suitable space, filtration, oxygen and an observation routine.
Plan it before buying
Have an established, appropriate system ready. A new unfiltered container can create more stress and a water-quality emergency. Discuss duration and procedures with a competent specialist for the species and risk.
Keep equipment separate
Use dedicated nets and tools, and avoid transferring water between systems. Clean and manage equipment appropriately. Observe feeding, skin, fins, swimming and water-test results.
Avoid routine treatment cocktails
Do not medicate every new fish simply because a product is available. Diagnosis, accurate volume, compatibility and species sensitivity matter. Some products used for koi are unsafe for sturgeon.
When something seems wrong
Delay transfer to the main pond and seek help with a clear history. A calendar finishing is not proof that a fish is healthy, and quarantine cannot guarantee zero disease risk.
Label the separate equipment
Make the quarantine net, bowl and maintenance tools easy to distinguish from the main pond’s equipment. Keep arrival dates, observations, tests and any professional advice together for each incoming group.
