Practical fish-health skills

Before using a pond treatment

The right treatment starts with a reason to use it, an accurate water volume and the exact product instructions.

Check the full label

Confirm species restrictions, temperature, oxygen requirements, UV/carbon instructions and compatibility with earlier treatments. Similar product names do not mean identical concentrations.

Write down what happened

Keep a dated record of the product, amount and response. If the fish deteriorate, stop improvising additional treatments and seek urgent professional advice with that record.

Know the limits

Treatments can damage fish or affect the system when used incorrectly. Antibiotics need veterinary direction. A volume calculator is an estimate, not a substitute for measured volume when dosing.
