Fancy goldfish
Feeding fancy goldfish without a scramble
Build the meal around the slower fish, not just the first fish to reach it.
Choose an appropriate complete food
Pellet size and feeding position should suit the fish’s mouth and swimming ability. WakeyKoi does not automatically add koi or sturgeon food to fancy-goldfish purchases.
Watch individuals
Feed in a way that allows each fish access. Observe whether a particular shape or variety struggles to compete. Repeatedly scattering more food may leave waste without solving the access problem.
Keep portions manageable
Use the food’s guidance, appetite and body condition to refine the ration. If using a bag-life estimate, enter the amount appropriate to your own routine rather than a guessed koi feeding rate.
If appetite changes
Check water quality and behaviour before switching repeatedly between foods. Persistent buoyancy problems, inability to feed or other illness signs need proper assessment.
Observe who gets the food
Make a note of which fish reaches the ration and whether any fish is consistently outcompeted. Keep the food label and your measured portion available when discussing a change of diet.
