An occasional movement is different from repeated jumping or a fish leaving the pond.
Prevent injury safely
Review pond edges, gaps and any protective netting so fish cannot become trapped. Keep barriers secure and suitable for wildlife and people as well as fish.
Look for a reason
Test the water, check oxygen and observe the other fish. Irritation, sudden disturbance, spawning behaviour and other issues can look similar from a brief description.
Avoid a diagnosis from one sign
Do not automatically add parasite treatments. Record when the behaviour occurs and whether new fish, weather, maintenance or chemicals preceded it.
If a fish leaves the pond
Handle the situation promptly with wet, fish-safe equipment and competent advice. Minimise further damage and seek professional help for injury or distress. Review the cause and prevention once the fish is safe.
Keep the sequence of events
Note the time, recent changes, water readings and whether other fish are behaving unusually. Photograph the pond edge and cover arrangement from outside the water when asking how to prevent another incident.
