Chlorine, sprays and chemical exposure

Sudden distress after filling, spraying or dosing needs immediate investigation. The timing is useful evidence.

Remove the ongoing source

Stop the suspected addition if safe, increase safe aeration and seek urgent fish-health advice. Preserve the product label and record the quantity, time and water volume.

Avoid a second reaction

Do not pour in a different chemical to “neutralise” the first without appropriate guidance. Suitable conditioned water changes may form part of the response, depending on the exposure.

Protect people too

Follow the product’s emergency instructions and keep others away from fumes or spills. Tell the adviser if several fish or systems are affected.
