Fancy goldfish

Fancy goldfish deserve their own plan

Body shape, swimming ability and feeding access matter when choosing a home for fancy goldfish.

Start with suitable accommodation

A spacious filtered aquarium is often the more controllable choice for delicate fancies. OATA uses 100 litres for the first adult and another 50 litres for each additional adult as general guidance; dimensions, filtration and individual needs still matter.

Choose gentle company

Do not assume slow, delicate varieties will compete well with fast single-tail fish. Keep water movement and décor appropriate, with no sharp or trapping features.

Observe feeding

Use a complete food suitable for fancy goldfish with particles they can manage. Watch each fish actually eat and remove leftovers. Buoyancy trouble is not automatically proof that one food caused it.

Keep conditions stable

Test the water, maintain the filter and plan introductions carefully. Ask for help with the exact variety and setup rather than applying a generic pond-fish rule.

Describe their actual home

Keep aquarium dimensions, resident fish, filter model and photographs of the layout together. Include the variety and approximate size of each goldfish when asking for advice about space, food or companions.
